¡Por fin llegó el verano! Esa época que a casi todos nos encanta. Tenemos más energía, desaparecen los resfriados, disfrutamos de la vitamina D y, por qué no decirlo, nos vemos más guapos. Sin embargo, tenemos que tener cuidado con nuestros dientes, porque hay ciertos hábitos típicos del verano que dañan nuestra dentadura. ¿Quieres saber cuáles son? ¡Te lo contamos a continuación!
Como en todos los ámbitos de la vida, los excesos no son buenos, y lo que es beneficioso para una cosa, es nocivo para otra, así que recuerda, con moderación todo es aceptable. ¡Disfruta del verano y presume de sonrisa!
Cuida tus dientes en verano evitando estas costumbres
Masticar hielo: una de las manías típicas entre junio y septiembre cuando nos sirven una bebida con cubitos, lo curioso es que en cuanto pasan estos meses desaparece. Lo malo es que el hielo es demasiado duro y puede romper tus dientes, astillarlos e incluso dañar el esmalte, lo que facilitaría la aparición de caries. Además, el frío extremo no es nada recomendable para las encías y la sensibilidad dental.
Tomar bebidas muy frías: es inevitable que en verano no nos apetezca un helado o, en general, bebidas a menos cien grados, pero cuidado, estas pueden incrementar la sensibilidad en dientes y encías, algo muy molesto que puede desencadenar problemas tales como úlceras o hernias de hiato.
Abusar de Snacks: sí, hasta para la dentadura son nocivos este tipo de aperitivos que, a quien más y a quien menos, nos encantan. Por su alto contenido en sales, azúcares y grasas hidrogenadas, no solo no aportan nutrientes al organismo, sino que también dañan el esmalte. Por ejemplo, las patatas fritas de bolsa, presentan dos ingredientes nada beneficiosos: potasio que, en grandes cantidades, desgasta el esmalte; y mucha sal, que fomenta la aparición de bacterias.
Bebidas hechas a base de cítricos: limonadas, naranjadas, smoothies… todos ellos son bastante ácidos, por lo que debilitan los dientes, reincide en la sensibilidad y descalcifica.
Chucherías: al igual que los snacks con alto contenido en sodio, las chucherías también provocan la aparición de caries, ya que al descomponerse el azúcar se dan las condiciones perfectas para la proliferación de bacterias.
Bebidas alcohólicas: quizás esta sustancia se lleve el premio al peor enemigo de la salud dental y no hace falta ser una persona alcohólica para sufrir algunas de sus consecuencias. Aparte de la estética, el alcohol puede acarrear muchas enfermedades bucales como: la erosión dental, periodontitis o gingivitis.
Por último, ¡cuidado con el agua de algunas piscinas!. Cuando el nivel de pH del agua es inferior a 6, el esmalte puede alterarse. Para prevenir este contraste deben utilizarse tratamientos remineralizantes que mantengan la estructura cristalina de la dentadura.

Sabemos que deshacerse de cierto hábitos de vida no es fácil, pero nos ayudará sustituirlos por otros más saludables. Por ejemplo, puedes cambiar las chuches por frutas deshidratadas, bebidas alcohólicas por tés fríos y patatas fritas por frutos secos naturales.
